39th Reunion of the 56th Ohio Volunteer Infantry

Organized at Camp Morrow, Portsmouth, Ohio in December 1861. Participated in the Battle of Shiloh in early April 1862 and then on to the Siege of Corinth, Mississippi, in April and May. Siege of Vicksburg in June and July of 1863 and then Siege of Jackson, Mississippi. Campaigns in southern Louisiana and occupation of New Orleans in 1864-1865. 3 officers and 55 enlisted men died of wounds received in combat. 2 officers and 156 enlisted men died of disease.
